Some of you may have noticed over the last week we have been adding more listings than usual. At the time of this posting there has been two AHTS vessels, two tugs, three entries for crew boats, one of which has three sisters, and finally two multipurpose vessels that can be used for offshore supply, commercial crabbing/fishing or cargo. This comes to a grand total of eleven vessels in roughly three days.

In the past we have preferred to stretch the time between new additions so infrequent visitors can see the latest additions on our main page and for maximum exposure. Due to an increasing amount of listings and because some markets are moving very quickly we will be updating and adding items more frequently..

We strongly suggest our visitors, who want to keep up to date, to check the site often. We expect to add a minimum of twenty vessels over the next week..

Finally, to help with browsing we are planning a “New Listings in the last # of Days” page and to arrange the sold vessels differently..

Any comments or suggestions are more than welcome.

It has been a very hectic month or more with a recent move and trip. Some of clients were ‘lucky’ enough to call during our phone transfer (which took 3 days) to receive a not in service ring. Others were berated by a family who were unknowingly taking Boat Source calls for at least a day due to the phone companies incompetence. One of the family members reported hundreds of calls to one of our clients.

With that in mind, we would like to take this opportunity to let our clients and callers know that, yes, we are still around and in business.

With the move and time out of town we are backlogged by at least a month. If you have not heard from us, please accept our apologies and try again. The most persistent are getting our attention as we try to maintain daily operations and plod through the pile of work.

Obviously the blog updates have suffered as well. So, please keep watch as we have an activity update on our TODO list. Several vessels have sold in the last month or two. As usual much of them crew boats. Activity remains high with vessels coming up for sale and those being sold.

Filed Under (Off Topic, General Marine Blogging) by Shane Lilge on May-24-2007

Recently I made the decision to act on my desire to help those who are less fortunate than I am. I began looking into charity organizations and trying to find the best way I can make a positive impact in our world. In a surprising coincidence, a day after this decision I received a call to Boat Source from The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada.

They were seeking information for a child’s wish which is to own a boat the family can take out during the day to fish, water ski and just have a general good time. This was obviously an ideal opportunity to start being a better person so I’ve been doing what I can to make this wish happen. One of the things I am doing, or should I say done, is writing in our Blog to see if we can generate other options or create a little more awareness for this Foundation.

What the family is looking for is a bowrider that will take up to 7 or 8 people max for trips on a local lake. They also need a trailer to transport it. One obstacle is that the Foundation is unable to fund wishes that involve a motor/engine. Fortunately the family has their own 125 HP Merc outboard so we are looking for something that will work with it.

We have made some quick headway and found a possibility through a Canadian builder that seems very eager to help out with a 17′ bowrider. We will post a follow up as we progress.

If you have any suggestions on making this wish happen or would like to know more about this great Canadian organization you can visit their website at http://www.childrenswish.ca/

Another quick way to make a difference which takes only a minute or two a day and a few mouse clicks is: The Hunger Site at http://www.thehungersite.com/

Filed Under (Listings For Sale or Charter) by Shane Lilge on May-18-2007

Lately many of our buyer requests have been for offshore related vessels. It is normal for us to receive a large number of requests for such boats but we’re in one of those ‘zones’ where they are dominating everything else. Our inboxes are filling up with calls for crew boats, anchor handling tugs, supply vessels and some smaller tankers or fuel barges.

So, being the good brokers we are and always concerned about our customers needs we have been focusing on this. Three listings have been added today that should be of interest and fill some needs for offshore operations.

‘Mini’ Supply Vessel: Early this morning we posted a mini supply vessel that is currently working in the Far East. With a length of 126′ she’s almost 60′ shorter than the 180 footers we often see. Built in the US in 1990 by Offshore Trawlers Inc. 1990 there’s a possibility she can be re-flagged for the the US and work under the Jones Act. This could be a handy utility boat with a 20 mt deck winch, 166 mt deck load capacity, FiFi equipment, accommodations for 16 with potential for more, dependable GM 16v-92’s and a current ABS as a supply vessel.
More details can be found at http://www.boatsource.ca/boats/sale/459

Aluminum Crew Boat: Our second offering for the day is an 85′ x 20′ aluminum crew boat. Also built in the US by Aluminum Boats Inc of Louisiana, 1991 so again, there is potential to re-flag and work it in the US. It’s not a screaming fast crew boat that is dominating the market right now but she’ll do at least 18 knots, carry 50 passengers with a 15 ton deck load and 36′ x 18′ clear deck area. Engines are twin Detroit 12v71 TI’s and she’s ABS classed.
Additional info is at http://www.boatsource.ca/boats/sale/460

FiFi ASD Tug: This tug may not specifically be built for the offshore industry but it could provide a multitude of services. It offers a strong 3,620 BHP from twin Caterpillar 3516 TA’s with 40 tons bollard pull, an aft wire winch with 30 tons of pull and a forward rope winch with 2.5 tons of pull. Further she can standby on fire watch with a 14 ton dispersant and 13 ton foam tank and able to pump 720 m3 an hour at 130m head. This tug has been reported in excellent condition for her age and is Lloyds classed.

Boat Source International Marine Brokerage is proud to officially announce our first step into the world of Blogging.

In an effort to keep our clients, visitors and associates informed we have opted to use a Blog instead of announcing our news with old-fashioned HTML editing as seen on our main site. Being new to the Blog World and this software: WordPress, we expect some changes and possible growing pains. So please bear with us. We appreciate any feedback and comments you may have.

In the meantime, please bookmark this page and check in from time to time for future news, sales and listing reports, general posts about boating and the maritime industry and probably an off topic note here and there.
